In the factory we make cosmetics. In the store we sell hope.
-Charles Revson, founder of Revlon Cosmetics
One would be hard put to name a discipline under the great umbrella of Social Media professions that requires more energy and work ethic, while concurrently offering abundant potential for financial reward, than that of multi-level marketing (MLM). Known variously as network marketing , relationship marketing, and direct sales (which is a bit of a misnomer, as MLM is actually a subset of direct sales), the old school terminology is simply industriousness.
MLM is a strategy characterized by a unique form of remuneration in which the account executive is compensated not only for their own sales, but also for the vending efforts of their recruited distributors, who are themselves independent business owners. Most products fall within the convenience good marketing segment. The traditional value chain is shortened several links, giving the entrepreneurs (who often have little more than a deep desire to pen their own Cinderella-like success stories, standing ready and willing to work diligently so as to enable them) direct access to the product line, as opposed to the typically complicated and far-flung distribution channels of archetypical commerce.
Enter Eric Green, a man on a mission of prosperity and accomplishment. His daily affirmations belie the “can’t do” attitude, exhorting all within earshot to dive headlong into the Success Vortex, adopting a mindset of achievement that becomes instantly infective and virulent. Says Green, “Two things I am obsessed with are the mind and heart. I think anyone can, through thoughts, words, and actions, create opportunities for success. Our minds are where we make a decision to accomplish our goals, and our hearts carry that decision forward into being.”
Eric is an extremely busy man, something easily guessed, yet I was able to capture a few valuable moments with him, hoping to gain insight into those qualities which forge a super-successful network marketer. What follows are his responses to my inquiries.
You are considered by many of your peers to be a highly acknowledged network marketer. To what do you attribute your success?
Considering that I am a junior college dropout, it certainly hasn’t been book smarts! I would say that, like most other adventurous people, I came to a point where I wanted freedom to pursue my passions. I was willing to take risks and keep going when the road ran out of pavement.
How did you get your start in MLM?
I was working with a company that had asked me to help redesign their existing Website. That was where I first started to see the Web as a medium that would allow me my freedom. Soon after, I tried my hand at selling various types of training programs online, and thus the journey began.
What characteristics do those in your line of business possess that are advantageous?
If you’re going to take on the Internet community with some fashion of direct sales, you had better be the type of person who refuses to lose or give up. People who have clear vision about what they want, then make a decision to turn that vision into a reality, no matter what, have the greatest chance of success.
You are very active with your professional endeavors on Facebook. Are there other social networking sites that you also use?
I was doing quite a bit of video marketing on YouTube, as well as other video sharing sites, but today a lot of my branding and interactions come from Facebook and my various blogs.
Some seem to think the term, “multi-level marketing,” can be disadvantageous. Do you think the Web in general, and Social Media in particular, are changing such perceptions? Why or why not?
The social Web is making a huge difference; it provides a global erudition platform for industry leaders. We now educate people on how dynamic such things as direct sales, MLM, or network marketing can be for any person looking at either full- or part-time income opportunities, along with a few incredible tax advantages.
You appear to have a great belief in your product, Xyngular. Do you feel such assurance is necessary to network marketing favorability?
I believe people are getting wise to all the business opportunities out there that have no real product, whose construct is simply set up as an artifice. Direct sales companies with a proven track record stay in business because they provide quality products which retail at affordable price points for the consumers. If you want long-term residual income, be very wise about both the company and the products you choose to promote.
You are very creative, inventing tag-lines such as The Digital Gangster and The Success Vortex. How does such innovation assist you in your work?
Social Media is busy these days, and so many are out there that you really need to distinguish yourself. I believe people who are fearless, willing to not only share value, but also have fun, can make a favorable impression on others. Social Media can be like a movie; we may script it however we like. However, the public won’t watch boring films, so you had best have some art, some flavor, or you end up as yet another vanilla online marketer
What advice would you offer others considering a network marketing career path?
Know the industry, and gain an understanding as to why it can be so powerful. Your belief in your business, as well as yourself, must be rock solid in order to undertake that which is necessary for the creation of personal success. It is imperative to connect with people, particularly those with a firm grasp of the characteristics and dynamics of both leadership and marketing; these apprehensions are necessary to win the (very!) competitive game we like to call MLM.
Fantastic interview. The Digital Gangster is a man with real values, a big heart, that can be trusted in the things he says. This takes dedication, work, and vision to make your real drams come true!
